Cichlids are warm-climate fish that exhibit a rich variety of color patterns, behavior, feeding habits, and range. The cichlids of the genus Satanoperca are widely distributed in the eastern region of South America and are economically important in the ornamental fish industry and as fish for direct human consumption. Diseases caused by parasitic agents negatively affects to the aquaculture industry for meat production as well as to fish farmers for ornamental purposes. A review was made in all the bibliographic databases available on the internet, on the parasites reported in the period 2001 - 2022 infesting the species Satanoperca jurupari and S. pappaterra. A total of 18 papers published on the subject of study in the last 21 years were reported, 94.44% of them being authored by Brazilian researchers. The three most diverse groups of parasites that were reported infesting these two cichlids were the following: Nematoda and Digenea with six species, and Monogenea with five species. Unlike Satanoperca pappaterra which only was reported a total of eight parasites, S. jurupari was infested by a total of 24 parasites.
