Evaluation of three commercial foods on the growth, food assimilation, and welfare indices of juvenile red-bellied pacu, Piaractus brachypomus

The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of three foods (T1=AQUATECH32, T2= CORINA28, and T3= AQUAPRO32) on the growth, food assimilation, and well-being indices of juvenile paco, Piaractus brachypomus (25.2 ± 0.55 g) cultured for 46 days. The experiment was conducted at the El Gavilán Farm, at km 7 of the Yurimaguas-Munichis highway. Ninety fish were equally and randomly assigned to nine 1 m3 cages and each food was randomly assigned and evaluated in triplicate. Fish were fed twice daily with an initial feeding rate of 8% in the first 32 days, after which it was readjusted to 7% until the end of the experiment. Biometric monitoring was performed every 15 days to evaluate growth and readjust rations. At the end of the experiment, AQUATECH32 and AQUAPRO32 produced higher growth rates (GP, GPD, TCE, and TCR) than the diet of the CORINA28 line, however, according to the ANOVA, there were no significant differences (P>0.05), nor were for the food assimilation and well-being indices. According to the results, any of the three foods could be used since the productive performance is similar.
